Here and There

Every year about this time, my Mother and I really start to get antsy. Warmer weather is right around the corner, which also mean that garage sales are too. For the past 6 or 7 years or so, my Mother and I have gotten up super early on Saturday mornings and drive all over certain areas of Birmingham looking for someone else's "junk" because it just might be the exact treasure we've been looking for. We've found a great deal of really nice things and paid so very little for them. It's still a little chilly so there haven't been too many garage sales, but the church consignment sales have started. We hit up 3 this past weekend.

We went to Bargains on the Bluff at Bluff Park Methodist Church, Mountain Top Church, and the Mom's of Multiples Sale. They all have children's clothing, toys, and any other baby gear needed. I was on the look out for some "sweet" clothes for Thomas. I found 10 outfits for him, all being in great condition and for the upcoming Spring and Summer seasons. Three of the 10 outfits will be for next summer. I spent a whopping $117 on everything, which figures out to be about $12 an outfit. Not too bad in my opinion. Here is a small sample of what I got:

Brett did make the comment about the style of each of them, but I quickly let him know that Thomas has the rest of his life to wear blue jeans and Polos and that he will wear this while he still can. I feel like my time is closing in quickly on being able to dress him like a little boy.
On another note, Brett and I should not be allowed to open or operate a laptop computer. Last November, during the Iron Bowl, something or someone (Brett) kicked or dropped our last laptop and crack the screen. We had to immediately run out and get a new computer because we can't miss a minute of what goes on on Tiderinsider or Rivals.com. Well, last night as I was changing the bedding in our room, I pulled the sheet off the bed and didn't realize that our computer was sitting on it and it fell on the floor. Everything looked fine, but when I tried to open it I realized that there was a problem. Of course the damage is to the exact spot that the power button is. I was terrified that we'd have to go get our 2nd new computer in less than 6 months, but luckily it still works and we are able to turn it on and off. Phew!

I am currently stuck in jury duty for possibly the remainder of this week. It is my first time to go and I kept humming the Law and Order theme all day. There are plenty of interesting people to chat with and lots of time to read so it hasn't been a terrible time at all. I am not sure if I want to get put on an actual jury or not yet. We'll see.

  1. Try to get on! I really tried to get on a case a couple of years ago, but it didn't work out.

  2. Hey Katie! I found your blog from Lindsey's. Thomas is too cute and getting so big! Love those little outfits you found for him! There are 2 good consignment sales this weekend-tonight and tomorrow-Mountain Chapel on Rocky ridge and Trinity-little lambs. Go look at their websites for the times. They're both always really good and I know you could find more stuff if you still need anything for him for the next season.
